So Blogmas has come to an end. It has been 24 straight days of posting  (25 if you include today)

I have never participated in Blogmas before (I never even knew it was a thing before this year!) and it has certainly been an experience… hundreds of photos, hours of editing and typing, nights thinking and planning.

I also learnt quite a few things. For example I have gotten fairly decent at photographing food and makeup items, (I’m  addicted to flat lays), but I learnt that being photographed for makeup and hair and outfit looks is a whole other ball game.

I also explored other types of posts such as short story and poetry writing.

All in all this was a great experience for me to grow as a blogger and I look forward to Blogmas 2017!

Blogmas Bonus – Cranberry Scones

Hello and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it and Happy Holidays to everyone.

Back in November when I was meticulously planning each and every Blogmas post, I asked my sister to do a guest post on something sweet and easy to make. I told her what daybI was thinking of putting it up and told her to get back to me.

Well she did. Yesterday. But I digress. Better late than never.

This recipe is taken from our favourite online baker Stephanie fron Joy of Baking (I have referenced her more than a few times)

Since this is Kristine’s post I will present it the way she did.



2 cups of flour
1/3 cup of white sugar
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup of unsalted butter
2/3 cup of fresh cranberries
2/3 cup of milk

She left out the candied fruit and the almonds listed in the original recipe.


Preheat oven to 400F (200C) and butter or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Whisk dry ingredients then cut butter in. Use a pastey blender of you have one if not use forks or knives creating course crumbs.



Add the cranberries and gently mix


Add milk and stir careful not to overmix


On a floured surface knead dough four times then form a circle about 7 inches (18 cm) in diameter.



Cut it into 8 triangles and brush top with milk.


Bake for 20 minutes or until crust is brown.


My sister gave these to some of her cowokers for Christmas. They make great gifts or a light dessert to have with coffee after all the heavy Christmas dinner.

Cozy Christmas  Breakfast

BLOG-Mas DAY 24!

I feel like breakfast at Christmas time should be a little special and these two recipes are bound to be. The first recipe is Cinnamon pancakes with Blackberry syrup and paired with a spicy hot cocoa. 



1) 1 1/3 cups (135g)Pancake mix 

2) 1 tbsp cinnamon

3) 1 cup Blackberries  Any type of berries will do. I chose blackberries because they were the cheapest st the supermarket. 

4) 1/2 cup (48g)  White sugar 




1) Add cinnamon to pancake mix and stir in.

2) Add water and mix well. 


3) Heat skillet and make pancakes to desired size.

4) Place blackberries, sugar and teabag into a skillet or saucepan.

5) Add  water and bring to a boil.


6) Adjust to a simmer until syrupy in consistency 


7) Pour over pancakes.

Spicy hot cocoa 


(Makes one 16 oz(475mL) cup )

1) 1/4 cup(56g) Chocolate morsels /chips

2) Cocoa powder  (unsweetened )

3) 1 tbsp of White sugar 

4) pinch of Salt

5)2 cups (16floz )of milk

6) 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper 

Cocoa ingredients 


1) Place all the dry ingredients including the chocolate morsels into a saucepan and mix until chocolate has melted.

2) Add milk and let simmer

3) Pour into cup and top with marshmallows and pepper

Your breakfast is ready to serve!

This is a delicious cute breakfast.  The cinnamon adds a festive feel to the pancakes and the fruit based syrup gives it a more complex grown up flavour.

The hot cocoa is rich and decedent and the pepper adds a most unexpected  dimension. It gives a slow smokey burn that somehow goes beautifully with the chocolate  (because what doesn’t go beautifully with chocolate? )

Festive Hair

Welcome to Blogmas Day 22, we’re almost there! Today I am sharing 3 festive hairstyles perfect for a night out.

A bit about my hair 

I have very thick , curly natural hair (no chemicals or dyes ). I have been growing it natural for two years and three months and had two trims in between. I use Aussie deep conditioner and just about any moisturizer I can get my hands on.  I also alternate between Fantasia hair polisher and Paul Mitchell super skinny serum for some shine.

Let us proceed…

Look no. 1   Braided half up halfdown


 -Section off a square of your hair

-Make a loose braid and secure end with hair tie

-Pin up the excess hair in a top knot

-Tousle remainder of hair to create some volume

Look no. 2  Sleek side do

This is definitely one of my favorite go-to styles when I want to look a bit fancier. I find it looks like you put so much effort when really you didn’t at all. Lol.

-Make sure hair is well moisturised. I defined my curls with a bit of styling gel.

-Brush all of your hair over to one side and apply some gel (or other holding product )to keep it in place. 

-Pin hair at nape of neck and place a few more going along side of head

-Redefine curls with fingers 

Look no. 3  High bun with Waterfall bang

I totally made that name up (obviously ). This style is like a throwback for me and I’m loving it more and more. This is a great alternative to those of us who love to pull our hair in a bun everyday  (me).

-Part off a portion of hair at front of head, from in line with the inner corner of one eye over to other side of face.

-Pull the rest of your hair into a high tight bun.

-Define curls

And that’s it. These are three basic level styles that I think can work for most hair types and any hair that is medium length or longer. Hopefully one of them will inspire your holiday hair and have an awesome day!

Festive Nails- Muted Jewel tones and Metallics

On the 19th day of Blogmas I will share a nail tutorial. My idea of festive colurs in fashion and makeup is muted jewel tones and soft metallic tones. This tutorial reflects that. 

The nail colours I chose are by e.l.f who I genuinely did not know made nail polish until I saw their Christmas gift sets for sale. E.l.f is of course a prolific drugstore makeup  (and now nail polish) brand. Their products are usually good quality especially considering the pricepoint. This tutorial isn’t really about the brand of polish, more the colours but my mini review is that the colours are decent. They have good coverage and require two coats to achieve a really vibrant effect. I also live the size of the polishes as someone who doesn’t use a whole lot of nail polish, I feel as if I can actually get through one of these bottles.

My colour selection is : gold, navy and deep red. Additionally I will be using a multicolored glitter polish and a matte top coat to mute my shimmery blue and red jewel tones and a wedge (the original beauty sponge). If you have access to matte colurs then use them.

Step 1

To cleaned, cut and buffed nails, apply your basecoat.(Ignore the peeling skin on my finger)

Apply one coat of each colur. I selected my 4th digit (ring finger) as my accent nail and painted that one gold. I then alternated with blue and red on my remaining nails. Allow to dry.

Apply a second coat of each colour and allow to dry. This particular polish achieved my desired look in just two coats. Apply as many coats as you need to get desired level of opaque.

Apply some glitter polish onto your wedge (the way I gave it pictured is the reverse of how it should be done) then apply it to the accent nail. The aim is to have denser application neat the tip of the nail with gradation down the nail (my nail isn’t long enough to completely pull this off) Once dry apply a regular top coat.

Apply matte top coat to the four remaining digits and allow to dry.

Now you are ready for the party ! If you are like me and have no time or money to spend at a salon getting your nails done this is a great idea. I like the flexibility of being able to change(or remove) my polish after just a couple of days so DIY -ing  is great for me.

I love this colour combo.. I think it looks kind of classy and adult because of the darker tones but still very fun (#glitter)

Christmas Appetizer -Honey Garlic glazed Meatballs

Welcome to the 18th day if Blogmas where I bring you a simple recipe for a delectable appetizer great for your yuletide gathering (or any other time of year). 

This is a recipe my mother makes often.She got it from TasteofHome. She has altered it a bit and I have altered her version so this is a version of a version. Lol.



1) Ground beef-you can substitute this with another ground meat : turkey, lamb, pork, chicken or for a vegetarian option you can use textured vegetable protein (minced soy chunks)

2) 1 large egg.

3) 1/2 cup(125mL) of milk

4) 1 cup breadcrumbs.

5) 1/4 cup of diced onion.

6) 2 diced garlic cloves.

7) 3/4 cup(6oz/170g) of ketchup

8) 3/4 cup of honey

9) 3 tbsp(45mL) of soy sauce

10) 1  tbsp butter

Sauce ingredients 




Season your ground meat-I use black pepper and Worcester sauce and let it sit for about 30 minutes. 

1) Mix egg and milk together.

2) Add breadcrumbs and onioin and mix well.

3) Add ground beef (turkey,  lamb, soy etc) and form a firm mixture.

4) Form balls, approximately 1 inch (2.5cm) in diameter. This recipe gives approximately 24 meatballs this size. Of course you can make them larger or smaller if you so desire.

5) Place on baking sheet and bake at 400 F (205 C) for 15 minutes or until cooked all the way through. 


6) In a saucepan heat garlic and butter then add ketchup, soy sauce and honey. Allow to simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.


Serve Meatballs with sauce either on the side or coated.

The original recipe(linked above) makes more meatballs than stated. My mother also finds the amount of breadcrumbs recommend isn’t quite enough to make a firm meatball. She also recommends using more honey than listed. For me I halved the amount of ground beef but had to tweak it in a few other places. The take home message is be careful if you plan to use the original recipe.

These Meatballs are always a hit. The meatballs themselves are firm but moist and flavourful. The sauce is has complex flavours but is super easy and affordable to concoct. The salty soy sauce , the sweetness of the honey and the tang from the ketchup make give a unique taste combination sure to impress your guests.
